Religious Studies

In Religious Studies we continue to reflect the school motto of “Raising achievement by raising expectations”. Lessons play an important role in a pupil’s intellectual development and the subject contributes to the spiritual, moral, cultural and ethical development of our pupils in both an academic and social setting. The subject challenges and inspires the beliefs and values of its pupils in an environment of respect and understanding.

We aim to enable all pupils to develop an understanding of some of the major world religions and to gain an appreciation of the ways in which religion influences and affects daily life. Pupils will gain an informed position based on knowledge rather than ignorance. They are encouraged to respect others and show empathy.

RE 002

The department actively encourages pupils to form their own opinions through discussion, research and constructive feedback. We aim to help pupils to develop a variety of skills including evaluation, analysing and application of ideas and we regularly liaise with other departments to ensure literacy standards are met.
